DZ 56 is a Guideline for carrying out an Environmental Audit established by the legislation of the State of Rio de Janeiro, with INEA (State Institute for the Environment) being the body responsible for inspection.
This audit is intended to contribute positively in several aspects, such as:
- Knowledge of legal provisions for environmental protection;
- Encouraging the recycling, reduction, treatment, transport and proper disposal of waste generated by production;
- Increased employee awareness of the benefits of reducing the impacts of pollution;
- Use of clean technologies and raw materials that act less aggressively on the surrounding environment;
- Greater favoritism for companies that adopt and wish to adopt environmental policies.
The companies that must carry out the DZ 056 audit are potentially polluting, characterized in classes 4, 5 or 6 of the classification table of enterprises/activities of State Decree nº 42.159/2009. Some examples of these organizations are:
- Oil refineries, pipelines and terminals;
- Port facilities;
- Airport facilities (airports, aerodromes, air clubs);
- Establishments intended for the storage of toxic and dangerous substances;
- Petrochemical and steel industries;
- Institutions for processing, recovery and final disposal systems for radioactive urban waste;
- Third-party liquid effluent treatment facilities;
- Pharmaceutical and veterinary product industries.
The DZ 056 environmental audit, using various criteria, identifies the condition of the company’s equipment and the effectiveness of its pollution and accident control devices. In addition, it evaluates the level of environmental degradation that the company offers and performs as a result of industrial activities.
It is part of the audit to verify the institution’s legal compliance with environmental protection bodies, implementing new operating and management policies that respect the environment. The results of these audits are consolidated in an Environmental Audit Report, a document sent to INEA and prepared by the audit team.
Encouraging the implementation of the environmental policy and the environmental management system is in keeping with all the company’s parameters! Therefore, it must be done by a specialized and qualified company, such as Klaston.
