We recently went through a pandemic, and we also saw an increase in cases of burnout in companies. Burnout, which is the exhaustion syndrome, is a process that goes through different stages, explained doctor Roberto Aylmer, who specializes in executive burnout and pressure management, but which was especially accelerated by the uncertainties that invaded life in the pandemic.
And when we talk about employee health, we’re not just talking about mental health, even if that’s the main topic.
According to the Global Wellness Survey, 61% of people are seeking wellness at work. More specifically:
- balance between personal and professional life (61%)
- mental health (61%)
- healthy work environment (47%)
- Burnout prevention (43%)
Some tips to promote a culture of care in your team:
- One of the great evils of the century is back pain, as many jobs are performed exclusively by computer. Promoting workplace gymnastics and encouraging stretching during breaks at work is also an efficient way to promote worker well-being.
- Making working hours more flexible or even alternating the activities performed by employees is also an efficient way to promote health in the professional environment.
- Through events such as lectures, courses and training, the company will also be able to create training experiences to develop interpersonal relationships within the team and strengthen bonds of solidarity and commitment.
- Many companies serve lunch and snacks, and one of the major causes of illness is carelessness with nutrition. Try, therefore, to offer healthy food and nutritious snacks in the sectors, in order to reduce as much as possible absences and eliminate the risk of illness among the team.
- And we cannot forget one of the biggest factors of diseases in the work environment, tiredness and stress. We see many companies that even outside working hours look for an employee to answer questions and solve problems or even to work overtime.
One last tip we can offer is for the company to try to partner with gyms, psychologists, nutritionists, among others who can improve the employee’s clinical status.
Promoting health to employees is a fundamental point for the company, which needs qualified labor, without many medical certificates and willing to grow professionally. Therefore, it is interesting to invest in strategies that motivate and value the activities of employees, especially in terms of health and well-being.
