One of the premises of the standard is to maximize the value that can be derived from an Asset, minimizing the cost of ownership.
Key themes of ISO 55001
What is an ‘asset’?
Risk management
The standard, like other Annex SL standards, implements a risk approach and requires considerations of risks and opportunities.
Strategic Asset Management Plan
The standard requires the creation of a strategic asset management plan, which must be aligned with the organization’s overall strategic direction.
Asset Management Plans
More specific Asset Management Plans will be created, documented and implemented to achieve the identified strategic objectives. This includes information from external parties where relevant.
Change management
When operating as an Asset Management System (AMS), change management is a fundamental characteristic and requires control.
Outsourcing
The ISO 55001 standard also makes explicit reference to the management of outsourced activities that contribute to the asset management process.
Based on Annex SL
ISO 55001 is based on the Annex SL structure (as is ISO 9001:2015), so it can be easily integrated with other management system standards or IMS Processes.
ISO 55001 Certification
Some certification bodies provide ISO 55001 and this can demonstrate a commitment to effective asset management to stakeholders.
We can advise you during the certification process.
